Monday Minutes: Diabetes by Jim Hoffman
Type 1: insulin dependent. about 10% of diabetic cases. (These are ones likely to see as EMT?). Lack of insulin. Related to autoimmune deficiency. Usually starts in young age, but can show up later.
Type 2: non insulin dependent. Controlled with diet & meds. Can lead to type 1
Gestational: onset during pregnancy. If caught early on, impact on mom & baby minimal. 4%.
